Life Lessons I've Learnt In 20 Years

We all learn lessons in life whether it's through mistakes we've made, what our parents have taught us from when we was little or through other peoples actions. I've put together a list of things I've learnt in the 20 years of my life which have also helped me become the person I am today. I know there will be plenty more lessons to be learnt and I am open to them all.

“Life is a succession of lessons which must be lived to be understood.” - Helen Keller

1. Never go to sleep mad at a loved one
If you fall out with a loved one never go to sleep or walk away without making amends first because anything can happen at any time and you'll only end up regretting it

2. No one is perfect
It doesn't matter how much of a tanned curvy body that tumblr girl has or how defined that guys abs are, nobody is perfect. Both that woman and man will have their flaws and be comparing them selves to other people too. We're all humans, we all experience the same emotions and nobody is better than anyone else

3. That gut feeling is always right
That gut feeling you always have, don't try to fight because 9 times out of 10 it will be right, so start listening to it

4. If you're unhappy in a relationship it's time to let go
If your partner is beginning to make you unhappy then you need to accept that it's time to let go. Now I'm not talking about being unhappy because your boyfriend wouldn't buy you this so you've thrown a tantrum or your girlfriend has had a go at you because you didn't pick up your dirty washing off the floor. I'm talking about to the point you're beginning to feel mentally drained and it's mentally making you ill because of controlling behaviour, and you constantly just think of breaking up with them, yeah I've been there. Trust me if you're this unhappy it's seriously not worth it and honestly is for the best. They say everything happens for a reason and it's true

5. Friends come and go
I've had heaps of friends and they've all been and gone, don't beat yourself up about it because that's life

6. If a great opportunity comes along grab it with both hands
Great opportunity's are once in a life time, if the same opportunity's comes round again then you're extremely lucky but the first time you must take it! Step out of your comfort zone as much as you can and try new things, that's a positive thing! How bad can it be? You will feel so proud of yourself and you'll be glad you said yes!

7. Treat people how you want to be treated
Like Cinderella said "Have Courage and be Kind" If you don't treat people with respect then how can you expect other people to treat you with respect?

8. Honesty IS the best policy
I believe honesty will get you far in life, nobody likes or trusts a liar. It's an important quality to have
9. You're not the only one who doesn't know what the hell they're doing
I know it's not just me who thinks how can anyone expect me to know what I want to with my life? I'm still only young and I've not experienced everything. I've always said how do I know what I want as a career if I've never tried it? I'm just rolling with it

10. Don't take anything for granted
It's extremely important to appreciate the little and the big things in life otherwise you'll put them in jeopardy or you'll end up losing someone you care about a lot

11. What goes around comes around
Karma is real I've seen it happen, and the majority of the time the one who sent it around ends up with more damage

12. Quality over quantity
This saying can apply to anything whether it's friendships or work, quality will always be more important than quantity

13. Surround yourself with people that bring out the best in you
It's important to surround yourself with positive people who bring out the best in you and encourage you to take them amazing opportunity's you are doubting, make you happy and to do well for yourself. I cannot express how much of a difference this has had an impact on my happiness

14. Accept that not everyone will like you
Just because the odd person can't see how amazing you are doesn't mean that there is something wrong with you. Unfortunately the world is filled with lots of nasty people and well, you just can't please everyone

15. Work Smart
Working hard is effective to some point but it's important to not over work yourself. Working smart has a better effect and is a lot more beneficial from what I've experienced. Use all them great ideas you've got stored in your brain and combine the two together and you've hit jackpot. Don't forget Balance is key!

What are some important lessons you have learnt?

Don't forget you can find me in all these places too!

    1. I 100% agree, because we're all living in the moment and so wrapped up about irrelevant things we don't realise what's important to us x

  5. I totally agree with trusting your gut! Recently the importance of this has been proven to me - I had a really bad feeling about getting involved with a programme before I started, but I ignored this gut feeling, gave it the benefit of the doubt, and decided to be involved anyway - it turned out to be a massive disaster! I wish I'd trusted my gut initially! Number 14 was also an important thing that I learned during sixth form - not everyone will like you, and that's ok! Thank you for such an insightful post!

  7. These are all such important lessons. I relate most to 4, 7, 8, 12, 13, 14. I find honesty is really the best thing. Be true and authentic, and things will be on there way to working out. Fabulous list here, chickadee. XOXO
